TOWNHOUSE RENOVATION

london

The only house in London of its kind: Canal House forms the bridge over Regents Canal. Originally built in 1906 for the manager of the Canal this unique building now serves as a domestic dwelling.

The fabric of the building was completely stripped back to bare brick, the lower ground floor was tanked with subterranean damp proofing, insulated and reconstructed with underfloor heating and a reclaimed parquet floor. Full electrical and plumbing rewire, including a mechanical ventilation heat recovery unit which removes all city particulates and viruses! The goal was to make the house look as if we hadn’t touched it, yet underneath it all, the latest building technology silently whirs away creating a very cosy home. From steam saunas, to air conditioning, to electrically opening rooflights, this house has it all, yet it feels like it was built in a different era.
